Authentic Moments Can't Be Staged

For a lot of us--myself included--having your picture taken can be awkward. Especially when a stranger is the one taking the pictures. It's hard to feel like yourself when you know someone you just met is not only watching you, but documenting every weird face you make or those times you lose your footing on Maine's rocky coastline.


The upside? That's okay! I know it's awkward. Which is why I will get silly. I will make bad jokes. If there are kids involved, I even ask beforehand about the sorts of things they find funny. Because not only does it break some of the stress of a photoshoot...laughing at a joke because it's THAT BAD still counts as a laugh as far as the pictures are concerned! And--I come armed with a lot of prompts that take a "coached candids" approach, that will help break the ice, get everyone moving--and most importantly, create space for you to make genuine connections during the moments in between.

Preparing for your session



While I like to keep things casual, a little planning ahead can help us maximize our time and ensure you get every image you're hoping for.

 

  • Wear clothes that are comfortable! You look your best when you feel your best. This includes dressing for the weather, and for any activities we'll be doing such as hiking or exploring tide pools
  • Give yourself extra time before the session so you have a minute to breathe
  • Try to ensure younger children have had a nap and a meal beforehand--but if they haven't, don't stress! I'm a parent, too.
  • Bring a small bag for snacks or comfort items if necessary (this includes for photo-shy or reluctant teens and adults as well)
  • Hydrate!!! Your skin will thank you, and you'll feel so much better

Send a message via my contact page with the information you have so far: what type of session you're interested in, dates, how many people will be involved, and anything else you want me to know. This gets the process started!

Planning



Within 24 hours of receiving your initial inquiry, I will send out a questionnaire for more specific information, and an invitation to book a consultation call. On this call we'll figure out all the details so I can get a contract written and sent over. Sessions are not confirmed without a signed contract and agreed-upon retainer.

The Day Of



Showtime! We will make sure to get any "must have" shots, but the goal is for your family and/or friends to have fun and make lasting memories together, knowing that you'll have pictures to look back on forever.


 

After we say goodbye



You'll receive 1-2 "sneak peeks" of your session within 48 hours, and your final gallery will be delivered digitally with password protection. If you weren't sure about adding prints or albums at the time of booking, now is when you'll get another chance. At the point, our time together is done...until you come back to Maine next year and we do it all again!
